Church Security Essentials & Fundamentals Course 

This course is designed to train faith-based organizations in the basic concepts and strategies to establish a volunteer Security Team or Safety Ministry using the best general practices in the industry.  The learning objectives for the student will be to understand the concepts and dynamics of establishing, organizing and working together as a team. The student will learn legal issues, civil liability, training requirements, documentation, incident reporting, de-escalation techniques dealing with disruptions, responding to emergencies (fires, medical, lost & missing children), securing the children’s/youth ministries, patrol techniques & strategies, brief overview of Active Shooter protocols & other Critical Incident responses (lockdown/evacuation/countering strategies) and site vulnerability assessment.  

Church Security Fundamentals Block Schedule

0800-1000: Introductions & intro to church security/ Team concepts 

Legal issues and civil liability 

Site security vulnerabilities

1000-1010: Break 

1010-1100: Security strategies (communications & placement of team members)

Use of force laws and other legal concerns 

1200-1300: Lunch break

1300-1400: De-escalation techniques & Force on force concepts 

1400-1410: Break 

1410-1500: Patrol techniques

Situational awareness

1500-1700: Incident reporting and documentation

Children ministry protection strategies

Emergency action plans

Lockdown and evacuation drills
